Learned Something New Today About Gizmodo
July 30th 2010Some people seem to think that a good way to get backlinks to their site is to spam blog comments all day long and hope to get some ‘nofollow’ links. Why waste your time and energy? Maybe it works for some if they spam thousands of comments all day long, but in the long run you will probably end up getting your domain banned by Google. What fun is that?
I like Gizmodo and similar sites, and every once in awhile I will post a comment but I don’t put links in them. I didn’t even bother to check and see if my ‘homepage’ link in my Gizmodo profile was followed or not, but it turns out that it is. So as an experiment I’ve updated the link to a deeper page of Darntoothysam.com (my main ecommerce site) and am throwing a link at it from here to get it indexed. The links TO the profiles are nofollow so they are not indexed by Google.

There’s nothing exciting on my Gizmodo profile or in my comments really, but feel free to check it out if you like.
I’m just curious to see if the profile link will be indexed and if it will carry any weight with it at all seeing as how my profile page is a PR 0 but Gizmodo itself is a PR8.
